Dr. Patrick Rowe
Dr. Patrick Rowe is the Vice President of Research and Development at RE2, Inc. and joined the company in January, 2008. In this role, Patrick is responsible for overseeing the technical direction of the Company’s research and development projects, generating new business by responding to research program opportunities, and identifying new avenues of technology development to continue the growth of RE2.
Patrick has over 17 years of practical experience in all applications of field and ground robotics. His specific areas of expertise include unmanned ground vehicle navigation, advanced path planning, robotic manipulation and control, sensor processing, computer vision, and overall system integration of complete robotic vehicles.
With his work at RE2 and in previous positions in both industry and academia, Patrick has successfully proposed and led numerous multi-million dollar robotics research and development efforts for both government and commercial customers. These projects include developing various advanced technologies to autonomously open doors, provide manipulator operators with the sense of touch, assist hospital nurses with patient care, rescue wounded soldiers from hostile battlefield conditions, plan safer military convoy routes in post-combat areas, produce interchangeable payloads for small robotic platforms, allow users to control multiple robotic vehicles via one common control station, and automate forklifts, excavators and other heavy construction equipment.
Patrick served in a leadership position on the Technical Advisory Board of the Robotics Technology Consortium. He holds 5 patents related to robotics and is the recipient of the 2006 US Army Quality Award for the Small Business Innovation Research program. Patrick received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his Ph.D. in Robotics from Carnegie Mellon University.
