Douglas Peters


Douglas Peters is the Vice President of Operations at RE2 Robotics. Doug joined the company in March 2010 and is responsible for company-wide operations, accounting, financials, contracts, security, and regulatory compliance. He also serves on the senior management team helping to drive the strategic direction and growth of the business. Doug is also involved with business development and leads proposal development for many government projects.

Prior to joining RE2, Doug spent twelve years at Applied Research Associates (ARA). Ultimately, he served as Division Manager of the New England Division, a 35 person R&D office focused on robotics, sensors development, sensor data fusion, nanoscience, and geophysics. Prior to becoming Division Manager at New England, Doug was the Associate Division Manager of the Central Florida Division of ARA where he also led a group of engineers and computer scientists focused on enhancing the representation of weapons effects for U.S. Army live training.

Doug’s research interests are in Modeling and Simulation, operations research, and optimization. He has led M&S projects with the U.S. Army, the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) focused on weapons effects, robotic control, and systems analysis. Notably, Doug’s work on the DARPA Future Combat Systems Command and Control experiments and the DARPA Multi-cell and Dismounted Command and Control experiments led to critical insights in the use of robots on the battlefield as well as new techniques for Command and Control evaluations in simulated environments. Doug co-authored four chapters of the book “Battle of Cognition: The Future Information-Rich Warfare and the Mind of the Commander” based on this work.

Doug graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a BAE degree in Architectural Engineering. He also received a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering and was a National Science Foundation Fellow at North Carolina State University, studying structural design and software development. He is a trained Facility Security Officer.
