RE2 Robotics Wins Contract to Design Assistive Manipulator Arm for the U.S. Army

RE2 Robotics announced today that the Company was selected by the U.S. Army to receive a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant to design an assistive robotic arm for the Applied Robotics for Installation and Base Operations (ARIBO) automated transport system pilot project at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

RE2 Robotics announced today that is has, in partnership with Endeavor Robotics, integrated its IOP compliant advanced manipulator with Endeavor Robotics’ (Bedford, MA) lifesaving robots. RE2 Robotics Inks $3.3 Million Contract to Develop Robotic Systems for the U.S. Air Force's Rapid Airfield Damage Repair Program
RE2 Robotics announced today that the Company signed a 3-year $3.3 million dollar subcontract with a division of Applied Research Associates Inc. (ARA) located at Tyndall AFB, Florida. RE2 will provide mobile manipulation and ground robotics expertise for the Air Force’s Rapid Airfield Damage Repair (RADR) program. (5/24/16)

 

RE2 Robotics Delivers Highly Dexterous Manipulation System to the U.S. Army
- RE2’s dual-arm manipulation system improves EOD robot capabilities -
RE2 Robotics announced today that it has delivered a two-arm Highly Dexterous Manipulation System (HDMS) to the U.S. Army’s Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC) under an Army Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II extension contract. (5/3/16)

 

RE2 Robotics to Present on Biomechanical Exoskeleton Simulation System at Xponential 2016
RE2 Robotics announced today that the Company will exhibit at Xponential 2016 on May 2-5, 2016 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Xponential, sponsored by the Association of Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), convenes the largest global community of leaders in intelligent robotics, drones and unmanned systems. RE2 Robotics will demonstrate its small, lightweight manipulator arm, DM4-A2, along with its Imitative Controller technology, in booth #2053.

RE2 Principal Scientist, Dr. Andrew Mor, Ph.D., is scheduled to present on the Company’s biomechanical exoskeleton simulation research on Wednesday, May 4th in a presentation titled, A Biomechanical Exoskeleton Simulator System to Study the Potential Health Impact on the Human Operator. RE2 Partners with the Space and Naval Systems Center Pacific to validate open architecture and interoperability for EOD robots

RE2 Robotics announced today that the Company and CEO, Jorgen Pedersen, were recognized by the Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer (FLC) for Excellence in Technology Transfer because of their collaboration with the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific (SSC Pacific) to validate open architecture and interoperability for explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) robotic systems. RE2 Robotics Founder, Jorgen Pedersen, named Carnegie Science Start-up Entrepreneur for 2016

RE2 Robotics announced today that President, CEO, and Founder, Jorgen Pedersen, was selected as the 2016 recipient of the Carnegie Science Award in the Start-up Entrepreneur award category. Pedersen was selected from a field of highly qualified candidates by a committee of his peers in the Pittsburgh science and technology community. (3/16/16)

 

RE2 Robotics Awarded $1 Million to Develop Biomechanical Exoskeleton Simulator System

RE2 announced today that the company has been awarded a $1 Million Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program with the U.S. Army to develop the Biomechanical Exoskeleton Simulator System, a software tool to assess the impact of load carriage and body-wearable robotic devices on musculoskeletal health and performance. The simulator will allow the Army to more accurately predict musculoskeletal stress on military personnel while wearing assistive devices, such as robotic exoskeletons. (2/12/16)

NDIA’s premiere robotics conference to be held in Springfield, Virginia on March 2-3, 2016

RE2 announced today that it will be exhibiting at the Ground Robotics Capabilities Conference and Expo (GRCCE) on March 2-3, 2016 in Springfield, Virginia. GRCC&E is sponsored by the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA). RE2 Robotics will be exhibiting in booth #201. RE2 Robotics 2015 Year in Review: Expanded Product Sales, New Markets, and Management Team

“2015 was an extremely exciting and productive year for RE2 Robotics,” stated Jorgen Pedersen, president and CEO of RE2. “We have sold 425 robotic arms to date and expanded our robotic arm product sales through a partnership with iRobot. We entered the underwater robotics market through two contracts with the U.S. Navy to develop manipulator arms for autonomous underwater vehicles. RE2 Robotics Wins Navy Contract to Design Inflatable Underwater Manipulator Arms

RE2 announced today that the Company has received a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant to design Inflatable Underwater Manipulator arms for the US Navy’s Office of Naval Research (ONR). During the Phase I program, RE2 will design a light-weight inflatable underwater manipulation system for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV). The inflatable manipulator arms will be designed as a payload for AUVs. Ultimately, the manipulator arms will be used as a collaborative robotic system to assist Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) divers in dismantling Waterborne Improvised Explosive Devices (WIEDs) and other hazards. RE2 Robotics Partners with University of Texas Arlington to Develop Robotic Nursing Assistant

RE2 announced today that the Company is collaborating with the University of Texas Arlington to design an Adaptive Robotic Nurse Assistant for the National Science Foundation (NSF). With nearly 3 million registered nurses employed in the United States, RNs make up the largest pool of healthcare providers in the country. The goal of this robotic nursing assistant project is to provide RNs with assistive robots to support their activities within a hospital setting. The University of Texas Arlington Associate Professor, Dan Popa, is leading the National Science Foundation Partnerships for Innovation: Building Innovation Capacity grant titled “Adaptive Robotic Nursing Assistants for Physical Tasks in Hospital Environments." RE2 Robotics Expands Management Team with Director of Product and Project Management

RE2 announced today that the Company has hired Jack Reinhart as the Director of Product and Project Management. In this role, Reinhart will guide the management of RE2’s products and R&D projects.  Reinhart will also work closely with the Directors of Business Development and Marketing to determine the marketability of future technologies, establish cost targets, and support marketing plans for all of RE2’s products. RE2 Robotics to Deliver Small Lightweight Manipulator Arms to iRobot

RE2 announced today that the Company received an order for $910,000 from iRobot Corp. (NASDAQ: IRBT) for Small Lightweight Manipulator (SLM) arms.  The SLM arms will be integrated onto iRobot’s model 110 FirstLook® robots for the US Navy as part of an order that was previously announced by iRobot on August 19.  The SLM is a mission-enhancing and modular payload developed and manufactured by RE2 enabling the FirstLook operator to easily manipulate and interact with the environment. The SLM robotic arm includes a mast camera which provides operators with a better vantage point for navigating, manipulating and inspecting. (9/9/15)

RE2 Robotics Announces New Lightweight Modular Robotic Arm DM4-A2 -- RE2 Integrates Arm onto QinetiQ North America’s IOP compliant Dragon Runner™ 10 Interoperable --

RE2 announced today that the company has developed a new high-performance robotic arm. The DM4-A2 robotic arm is highly modular, lightweight, and power-dense. The DM4-A2 is composed of a 4-degree-of-freedom manipulator and a 2-finger gripper. The manipulator and gripper are attached via RE2's End-Effector Interface. The DM4-A2 can be easily mounted on to unmanned ground vehicles (UGV) for use by the military’s dismounted units.  The addition of a robotic arm onto a UGV enhances the robot’s capabilities and ability to remotely interact with the environment. RE2 recently integrated the DM4-A2 onto the IOP compliant Dragon Runner™ 10 Interoperable (DR 10-I) by QinetiQ North America. RE2 Robotics to Develop Automated Robotic Technology to Assist Combat Medics

RE2 announced today that the company received funding from the US Army Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) office and U.S. Army Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC) to develop robotic technologies to assist combat medics in the field. The objective of this project is to develop and demonstrate an innovative and novel medical module payload for future military ground systems, enabling the ground systems to extract a combat casualty and perform medic attended casualty evacuation. RE2’s medical module payload, called LIFELINE, will assist combat medics in maneuvering, treating, and evacuating wounded soldiers under extremely hostile conditions. (3/11/2015)

RE2, Inc. Awarded NIH Grant to Conduct Robotic Arm Research – RE2 partners with the University of Pittsburgh to Assess Technology for People with Disabilities
RE2, Inc. announced today that the company has been awarded a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the National Institutes of Health to perform research and development of a Patient Assist Robotic Arm (PARA). The goal of this SBIR program is to engineer a practical solution to allow people with severe disabilities who require assistance (human or mechanical) to transfer to and from a wheelchair in their homes, homes of friends/family, and in the community (e.g., hotels, restaurants, shopping malls) in a safe, comfortable, efficient, and convenient manner. The intent of this project is to conduct further research and development of the University of Pittsburgh’s wheelchair mounted mobile robotic assisted transfer system to determine its feasibility and potential for marketability. RE2 is partnering with the University of Pittsburgh and the Veterans Administration to conduct this research at their Human Engineering Research Laboratories.  (12/10/2014)

RE2 will use the funds to conduct a Design for Manufacturing Project. RE2, Inc. Teams with Texas A&M on USDA Robotics Research Program – RE2 to assess feasibility of robotic technologies for vineyard operations
RE2, Inc. announced today that the company is partnering with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, an agency within The Texas A&M University System, as a subcontractor on the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) Foundation Program, Assessing Viticulture Production Practices for Robotic Technology Development. RE2 will provide expertise to assess and recommend robotic technologies to meet the needs of the viticulture industry. The goals of this project include the identification of issues and operations that are commonly utilized in the production of grapes and verification of which operations are most suitable for robotic technology development. RE2, Inc. announced today that the Company has been awarded additional funding by the Department of Defense to commercialize its high speed inspection robot called the ForeRunner. The ForeRunner unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) was developed under an Army Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program and the additional funding was awarded through the Robotics Technology Consortium as a Phase III SBIR with the Army’s Tank and Automotive Research Engineering and Development Center (TARDEC). RE2, Inc. Applies its Mobile Manipulators to New Market - RE2 to design a dexterous manipulation system to maintain performance aircraft –
RE2, Inc. announced today that the company has been awarded a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program to develop an Automated Air Inlet Coating (A2IC) system to recoat damaged or worn air inlets of performance aircraft using a robotic manipulation system.  The development of the system is being directed by the U.S. Air Force Manufacturing and Industrial Technologies Division, Materials and Manufacturing Directorate, Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL/RXM). “The A2IC system that we proposed is an extremely innovative design that will significantly reduce re-coating time during aircraft overhauls, reduce worker risks, and provide uniform, repeatable and verifiable coating results,” stated Mike Cozza, vice president of engineering for RE2. Donates $850,000 Robot to The University of Texas Arlington- RE2 President & CEO, Jorgen Pedersen, helps to launch UT Arlington Research Institute’s Assistive Robotics Lab – RE2, Inc. announced today that the Company has donated a Robotic Nursing Assistant (RNA) assistive healthcare robot to The University of Texas at Arlington’s Research Institute. The donation, valued at $850,000, was announced today at the official launch of the UT Arlington Research Institute’s Assistive Robotics Lab. Selected to Participate in DARPA Robotics Challenge - RE2 to focus on advancing the state of the art of autonomy and perception software – RE2, Inc., in partnership with Soar Technology, Inc. and the University of Texas at Arlington, has been selected as a performer on the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency’s (DARPA) latest cutting edge robotics program entitled the DARPA Robotics Challenge (DRC). The goal of the DRC program is to develop and demonstrate innovative robotics technologies for disaster response operations such as in natural disasters or industrial accidents. The technology is intended to allow a robot to perform complex tasks in dangerous or degraded environments considered too dangerous for humans. RE2, Inc.to Deliver Robotic Manipulator Arms to Afghanistan for Evaluation – RE2, Inc. announced today that more than 100 units of the Company’s DS1-MA Manipulator Arm will be delivered to MacroUSA Corporation for integration onto the Armadillo Micro Unmanned Ground Vehicle (MUGV).  One-hundred of those units will be shipped to Afghanistan for user testing and evaluation in early 2012. The complete robotic system will provide general Infantry with a dismounted light-weight, yet robust MUGV. The Joint IED Defeat Organization (JIEDDO) within the Department of Defense plans to evaluate the DS1-MA and Armadillo as a part of a Joint Urgent Operational Need (JUON) request for improved man-transportable robotic capabilities. Troops in Afghanistan require a light-weight man-transportable and throwable robot that can be used to clear structures, perform reconnaissance missions, and counter IEDs during dismounted operations. Wins Phase II SBIR to Develop a Highly Dexterous Manipulation System — RE2 announced today that it has been competitively selected to develop a two-arm Highly Dexterous Manipulation System (HDMS) for the U.S. Army’s Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC) under a Phase II Army Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) competitive contract.

Robotic systems for explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) currently include a single manipulator to perform critical tasks such as inspection, detection, and neutralization of explosive devices. These manipulators are often limited in their dexterity, reach and lifting capacity. The goal of the dual-arm HDMS technology is to provide the robot operator with capabilities that far exceed currently fielded single-manipulator robots. These capabilities include inspection in tight and cluttered spaces, manipulating wires, opening bags or packages, unscrewing lids on containers, and other abilities to provide access and information while operating at a safe distance.
