RE2 FAMILY OF MANIPULATORS

RE2 offers three classes of innovative, power-dense manipulators ranging from small, lightweight arms to large, workhorse arms.  All of RE2’s manipulators provide smooth, precise tool-point or direct joint control allowing UGVs to be more efficient and effective.  All three classes of manipulators incorporate the following design features that enhance adaptability and modularity:

  • Self-contained on-board computing
  • Support for common protocols (e.g. CAN and Ethernet)
  • Compatibility with interoperability standards and products (e.g. JAUS and ROS)
  • Adaptability to wide range of power systems (Typical range 12V to 60V)
  • Ability to interface with RE2’s Quick Releases for automatic tool changing capability

D-Series Manipulators
The D-Series of robotic arms offers power-dense manipulation for small/micro unmanned ground vehicles.  Arms in this series typically weigh between three and fifteen pounds and are well-suited for robots used for dismounted operations.  The dexterity of these arms is typically between one and four degrees of freedom, but higher dexterity arms are available.

T-Series Manipulators
The T-Series of robotic arms provides powerful manipulation capability for medium-sized (less than 165 pounds) unmanned ground vehicles.   Arms in this series weigh up to sixty pounds, perfect for robots used in tactical operations.  The T-Series arms support greater dexterity, offering models with up to 8 degrees of freedom.

B-Series Manipulators
Arms in the B-Series are true workhorse manipulators, offering superior strength and dexterity for larger unmanned ground vehicles (over 165 pounds).  B-Series arms weigh over sixty pounds and serve robots typically used for base/infrastructure operations.

RE2 FAMILY OF QUICK RELEASES

Manipulators on currently fielded robots are typically limited to a two-finger gripper, restricting the types of tasks and missions that can be performed. RE2’s Family of Quick Releases allows the end-effectors at the end of a robotic arm to be changed, either manually or automatically. RE2’s Quick Releases allow new, innovative end-effectors and specialized tools to be easily integrated onto fielded and next-generation robots, increasing the types of tasks that those robots can perform. All of RE2 Quick Releases are compatible with RE2’s family of manipulators, but can also be integrated onto third-party manipulators and end-effectors to increase their utility.

RE2 ForeRunner RDV

The RE2 ForeRunner Research & Development Vehicle (RDV) is the fastest, most stable UGV of its class available on the market today. Originally designed under a US Army Phase II SBIR as a high-speed scouting and inspection UGV, the ForeRunner RDV combines the speed of a small scout UGV with the physical inspection capabilities of man-portable tracked robot. Its unique agility makes it capable of precision maneuvers not seen in other UGVs. Its intuitive control makes it easy for even the most novice user to become proficient at operating the ForeRunner RDV in a minimal amount of time.

The ForeRunner RDV’s modularity and EAR99 classifi-cation make it ideal for university- based research. The ForeRunner RDV supports interoperability standards and products such as the Joint Architecture for Unmanned Systems (JAUS) and the Robot Operating System (ROS), providing an excellent foundation for third-party navigation and sensor development.
